1976 International 1066 Tractor Advice Needed

The neighbor has a 1976 International 1066 that he is wanting to sell. The tractor has a cab on it and duels on the rear. The engine was overhauled when he purchased it about 10 years ago. I know that it hasn't been worked hard for any of the years he has owned it. The tires are like new on the back. It has a new torque amplifier and has the manual transmission. The tractor also has a loader on it as well. Its a good running tractor.

He is wanting to get $10,000 out of it.

Is that a good price?

Any other advice on this model tractor, like the pros and cons of the International Model 1066 tractor would be great!

Thanks!

does it have a coolant filter ? in other words does the coolant have a D.C.A. in it to reduce pitting of the wet sleeves? that series of motors were bad to leak coolant at the lower end of the sleeves!

That seems kind of high unless its in very good shape with a very good laoder, they dont bring that much in this part of the country.

If the tires are as described that's worth $2k and the loader is probably worth $2k. $6k for 100 HP is pretty good. These engines are prone to electrolysis and crankshaft failure but will out pull any JD 4020. Get an ih mechanic to check it out.

if its a 1976 it should have the coolant filter on it. sounds like a resonable price for what you described. i disagree with the 414 having crankshaft problems, this is one of the best engines ih made.

These wet sleeved engines are like all wet sleeved engines and subject to cavitation erosion on the sleeves. IH , Case, Deere, Cummins, Allis Chalmers all in the same boat. One thing about them they rarely harm the block when they erode away whereas the Case would really eat up the block and Deere quite a bit. A good coolant maintenance program is a must, keeping good fresh coolant, with filter and correct amount of additive in the coolant. It can be tested. Camshaft failures were much more of a problem than the crankshaft ever was.

Yeah sounds like a good deal we have 2 of them i love them they have been good tractors and those motors are fine just keep a good coolant filter on it.

Tractor with cab, no duals or laoder is going for about 8500 in my neck of the woods. So that seems like a good price. Gotta remember that local area value is what counts. Whats worth 500 here might be 2K around you so I'd check local dealers, CL and tractor house for your area.

Knowing the history of the tractor and repairs will add some to the value.

Totally roached out black stripe 1466 brought $7500 at a recent auction.

$10,000 for what should be a mechanically sound tractor with good tires seems fair to me.

The sleeve problem was fixed by the water filter & maintenance of cooling system. The engines were not known for crankshaft problems. IH F856D would out pull any 4020 that was stock.
