I'm going to look at an IH 633 MFWD with the D179 engine at week's end. It was given to him as payment for a job he did. It doesn't run. Anyone have opinions on these engines or this model? I've seen that several models shared the D179, but don't even know what's wrong. Did they have any serious flaws? Mint cab and 2250 loader.

633 gave the IH buyer a fwa utility tractor when Doncaster had yet to put a fwa axle under the 74/84 series.

D179 is great engine, had good luck with it.

454/464/484/485/495/3220 all used this engine right up until 1996 or so.

I am not aware of any "show stopper" differences when used in the 633, but seems to me the D179 was rated to be around 50 PTO HP in a 633 as opposed to 42 PTO HP in the above tractors.

2250 loader will fit almost any smaller IH, but I imagine the mounts on the 633 fit that series only.

If everything else worked on the tractor, the engine should have enough commonality to repair easily.
