MD disel starting issues

I have a 1950 MD and I have not yet got it running on disel. It runs great on gas. I have cleaned the carb, cleaned both tanks out, fresh fuel filters, taken apart and cleaned the fuel pump and replaced all the gaskets, taken apart and cleaned the injectors. I have bled the lines and filters and get fuel up to the valves on the injectors, but still dont get a higher reading on my guage than halfway up in the "red". Any thoughts or suggestions. Am I going to need the injectors professionally rebuilt?

Voice mails would help too. 812-430-7008, or facebook me: Justin Klueg
Thanks

Take the pump apart again. The thing isn't that difficult to work on. Be clean, take pictures, and look for stuck components, or worn parts. The rack and plunger can be stuck. The pressurizing pump can have its pressure relief stuck. Jim

before you go tearing the pump apart again make sure that the "butterflies" on the manifold are operating properly. make sure all your linkages to the diesel side are working properly. are you sure the system is bled very well if you have had it torn down check everything again and the fuel bowl will hold an air bubble in the to
p which you wont see.

That engine will run on diesel cycle if you show any pressure at all on the primary pump gauge. May not have any power but will run. What part of the pump did you take apart, primary or high pressure. Did you adjust injection nozzle pressures to about 700 psi. Will it shoot a good stream out of injector bleeders when running on gas cycle and with some throttle. Make sure the decompression valves are not all stuck open. You can tell that easily by removing the spark plugs and cranking engine over on diesel cycle with starter. If they are closed and sealing no compression will come out of spark plug holes.

FYI, on mine I can't just flip the levers and make it happen the first time every time. I have to put it to diesel twice sometimes so it doesn't kill. Same goes for going back to gas.

BTW, shut your gas off when you are running on diesel. They always seem to use a little gas when you are running on diesel.

I was reading my manual and thought I might post their trouble shooting suggestions. I would guess you already have the manual so there may be nothing new here.
With most trouble shooting tables they are all common sense anyhow. Most were already mentioned in the thread as well.
- Engine controls not set in correct position
- System airbound
- Operating control linkage not functioning
- Water in diesel fuel
- No diesel fuel being delivered
- Injection nozzle inoperative
- Faulty timing of injection pump to engine
- Fuel filters, water trap, primary pump filter screen or strainer clogged
