Hello,
I am in the process of putting a rebuilt head back on my 706gas c263cid engine. I was wondering would anyone have the specs for the head bolts? Does 90ft pounds sound right? And also what are the valve tappets clearance as well? I would guess around 17 thousandths? What are the proper specs so I can get it back together.

Thanks,
Joey

According to the book,as follows for head torque."Torque all of the cylinder head bolts in two steps and in proper sequence. Torque first to 65 ft lbs.then retorque in sequence to full torque of 90 ft lbs.Back off 1/2 turn, one bolt at a time(in lengthwise rows) and retighten to 90 ft lbs. torque.Adjust valve lash."
If you start with the bolts placement on the head ,looking over head and from the drivers side. Numbers are as follows, from the front. 12-8-4-1-5-9-13. Passenger side from front(thermostat housing) numbers are as follows. 14-10-6-2-3-7-11-15.
According to the book, the valve lash should be .027 inch.
hope this helps.

For best results torque head down in three steps 40-65 and 90 , you may have leakage at 90 ft.lbs and if there is seepage then go to 105 Valves set at .027 hot and this mean anything above room temp. Pay close attention to the wear pattern of the rocker arm and do not get the fleer gauge under the side of the rocker arm that is not worn as this will give you a false set. Run the engine till it is at running temp and retorque and reset the valves.

Just wanted to thank you for the information on the specs followed the pattern and torqued the head down got it running with good compression 120+ sounds good. Wanted to say thank you and for getting back with me so fast.

Take care,
Joey
