:?: :?: I have seen farmall H's with front pumps. can anyone tell me how it is done. and what kind of pump is used? Or would it be easer just put a reguler farmall pump in line. Witch will give more pressure?
thanks Howard

A front mounted pump on a H or M type tractor requires a universal joint at the front of the crankshaft to drive the shaft at an angle out the unused hand crank stub hole. It requires engineering and fabrication to assure good alignment and long life operation. (I know of no Kits to do it)
A pump belt driven from a front pulley add on works well and is less complex to fabricate.
A live Pump as used on StageII SH or 300-350 engines can be adapted. A newer front cover, new series 300-350 cam gear, and a pump are needed. Jim

It doesn't sound like you are a designer, fabricator, or a researcher. In the last case, let me just say that there are hundreds of pictures of live power on Farmalls in the archives or the photo section. Heck, I just put one up yesterday.

On the left side, you can mount a pump up high off the head, midmount off the governor, or low mount under the frame rail. On the right side, you can use IH parts off a SH or 300-350, or run a belt or chain below the distributer drive.

I would suggest that you get a complete system off a salvage tractor that includes pulley(?), pump, reservoir (maybe), valve(s), and hoses.

"Pressure" means nothing if GPM is not part of the equation. Most pumps will be in the 10-15 GPM range with 1000-2000 PSI and that should be adequate but you haven't specified any application. IH was satisfied with 1200 PSI at 10 GPM on the SH, 300-350.

Jim,

That high angle U-joint suggestion sounds like a short-life solution. Never seen it done. Probably because the tractor(s) is/are sitting in a fencerow or salvage yard. I'm getting the colliewobbles just thinking about the vibrations, and no, they are not the "good, good, good" type.
