i have a 1960 IH 460 utility that has manuel steering i need parts for the steering gear box does anyone know where i can get parts ?

As a parts guy for 40+ years I doubt that CNH has any new stock any more, would be expensive also, your best bet would be try & find something at salvage yard, I460 wasnt a big seller, so this doesnt help, steering was unique to this model, not much interchanged with say a 560 or 340 made at same time frame. This is a bad deal for a lot of tractors that get scrapped because of it. But remember these are 50 years old, you cant get much from GM for a Olds or Chevy in that vintage either.

(quoted from post at 04:28:24 05/04/11) thanks mark will show this to my local CASE-IH dealer that told me they couldn't get the parts. larry

Those are scans of the original parts books, not a catalog of what CaseIH offers.

The parts probably are not available.

If all else fails, rather than scrap the tractor, convert it to hydraulic power steering. All you need is a "hand pump" for the steering wheel and a ram to turn the wheels. Tap the tractor's hydraulics for pressure. You might be able to find some salvage parts cheap, like off an old combine.

IIRC, Wardner has a setup like this on a W-400. Totally eliminated the steering box and linkages.

* - hand pump is the part the steering wheel attaches to
