Super H serial DJ suffix

I am looking at pictures of a 53 Super H for sale and the serial tag
has a DJ after the numbers. I know J is for a Rockford clutch, but
can anyone tell me what the D is for? Thank you very much.

Zach - D = 5,000 ft altitude.

Not sure what "5,000 ft altitude" entails. But I suspect higher compression pistons (or head), and possibly a different carburetor calibration.

Incidentally my '53 SH also has a "DJ" suffix. I can discern no differences from a relative's SH with a plain "J" suffix.

Thank you very much. I have heard that the high altitude tractors had different pistons for higher compression, but after all of these years who knows what could be in it. A different head would be interesting too. Thanks again for the help.

A quick look in the SH parts catalog shows different pistons are used for "high altitude" service. Head and carburetor however are the same regardless of altitude.

I have a H I bought that did not idle right. The owner said it did not run right after he had the engine rebuilt. I found it had longer valves in it and was told they were for high altitude. So I assume the valves are different. I replaced the valves and it runs fine.
