More ?'s on my 806 brakes

OK, checked out everything possible that is accessable on the MCV, the brake valve, the internals the brakes. Still same thing, start up and she locks. Now reading the IT manual it does not say anything about differences in the '06 series brakes. I recall the person I bought the tractor from saying it had a 706 rearend, he thought, but he didnt seem sure, So as I am looking at the outer brake cover, it seems awful small(narow), so I walk over to the 1206, and measure, and the cover on the 1206 is a full 1/2" wider than the one on my 806. The IT book doesnt address it but I thought I read some where that the '06's had a brake change at some point. I am wondering if my brake assembly that is on the tractor is from a different design than what the brake assy cover is from. Like there is just to much brakes "stuff" being compressed into that drum cover. The brakes I have in it has the brake piston, 2 plates, and 2 brake disk's, and a bonded disk (insulator) on the piston. Is my whole problem maybe that some one stuck on some rong covers???

The brake discs remained the same when the change was made but the cast separator plate and the adjuster plate were made thicker. I don't have any here to compare but if I remember correctly the original cast plates were about 3/8 - 1/2 inch thick and the later ones were about 5/8 - 3/4 in thick.

So I am assuming they changed the outer cover work with the increased thickness? If that is my problem it sure would explain alot to all the confused and stumped mechanics I have been begging for help with.

A 1206 will be different from an 806. The bull pinion shaft and brake piston at least are different. Also, those cast plates are different on later model and earlier model 806 rear ends. serial number break is in the low 20,000's as I remember. I had to deal with that on my '64 806, one of my plates the adjuster tab broke off, and Anderson tractor sent me the wrong ones. After calling them, they traded me for the ones I needed. I can't now describe the difference, but it is painfully obvious when you have the two styles side by side. -Andy

FC Andy I don't have your answer, it would seem to me if the wheel turns ok with engine off. Then the brake dic should be ok. The valve must be sending oil to the brake with engine running. I believe you said you took brake valve off the 1206 and but on the 806 with no luck. Try the MCV off the 1206 If the helps I would say that is it.

The 1206 has a t/a, the 806 is a TA delete. Can I still swap the MCV? Also, The reason I am kinda leaning towards possibly some thing mismatched in the brake assemly is that whith the engine running, and brakes pedals not depressed, in fact even with the brake pedals not connected to the brake valve I have a slow flow from the bleed screw when I open it, I compared the flow to the 1206 and they are about equal, in fact I can stop the flow on both tractors using my finger over the bleed screw, which is making me wonder how that little pressure could actuate the brakes to the point I can not move the tire one bit. I even loosened the cover to back off the pressure to see f the breaks would loosen no go. The adjuster plate is about 3/8" thick, the intermediate plate is closer to 3/4. I just wonder if some one replaced the brakes on a "prechange" tractor. with the brake "guts" from a "post" change tractor, or mixed them up some how. Both wheels are doing the same think. . Does any one know if they changed the outer cover when they changed the thickness of the plates?

I can't see how your brakes would apply with that little pressure if you can stop flow with your finger if you have good return springs in side the brake as they are quite heavy. If you had wrong seperator plate they would lock without running if you could even get the outer drum tightened down.

I have some thing going on with the plates or the outer cover drum I think. I measured the thickness of the plates and brake disc's and it is actually a smidgeon more than the inside depth of the outside drum, cover. I am assuming the breaks are barely free when it is not running, and that little pressue is enough to lock her up. I am not sure what to do. gotta find some correct parts, but I dont know what to look for. I am temted to take the plates I have in and have them milled down about an 1/8".
