706 gas 263 rebuild

I have a 1964 IH 706 gas that is in need of a rebuild. Front 4 cylinders are 160 psi rear two are 90 and 55.

So I popped the head, head and valves look 'good' what I am noticing is that there are head and piston markings like the rings have let go on #1, #5 and #6. I need to push the pistons out and take a look yet but what is my best plan of attack? I believe I would like to do a complete rebuild but I have never pulled sleeves from a motor like this? How are you guys pulling the sleeves. Looks like the site here has a rebuild kit that would fit the bill and is reasonable priced. Thanks for your response.
 
BEFORE ordering a kit you had best look at the top of the block and see what letters are stamped by each hole , you are looking for A or B or C or D A -B are one size and C-D are another size one size does not fit all . Pulling the sleeves is the best done with a sleeve puller . They can be pulled buy taking a welder and running light beads up the sleeve BUT you can burn thru and mess up the block. To solve the one size does not fit all problem you can order a 263 to 291 change over and bore the block and make it all one size . Then you have other issues to address like timing as not only do you increase the bore but you raise the compression ratio and the engine timing has to be set back in the dist. The only place to get the correct sleeves is from Case I H .
 
There are different size sleeves available for the C-291 but for the C-263 one size fits all. The sleeve fit varies from falling almost all the way in the cylinder to a heavy press fit. Sleeve stand out from the block should be from .000" to .006", no more than .002" between any two adjacent sleeves.

The A, B, C, or D markings on the block were stamped after the sleeves were installed and the bore measured. Pistons were then selected to fit the bore. There is a service bulletin explaining that marks were for original assembly only. They could be ignored for an overhaul since they referred to the installed sleeve ID and not the block ID.
 
If you are going to have the block hot-tanked, etc, let the machinest remove the sleeves provided he does that. In my 460 he said he had to "peel them out". Not having worked on a 6 cyl IH engine before, I think I made the right decision.

I ran into a 560 where a sleeve was so tight that I could not remove it with the hydraulic sleeve puller. The machine shop ended up boring the sleeve to remove it.
 
Block markings are (from 1 to 6) C,B,A,B,C,D.

Sounds like my rebuild kit I order I don't need these numbers as all the sleeves are the same for the 263?

I also found a 3 point system removed from a 1066, will it fit my 706? And what should I be paying for it?

Currently there is just a hitch and no draw bar or 3 point on the 706 I am rebuilding.
 
No,No,and no.you must have a 3pt from a 966 or smaller.1066 has cat#3 hitch,966 cat#2 hitch.The will not interchange.If you have a "bareback"tractor,you will probabiy need all of the internal parst.may be cheaper to trade tractors.
 
Thanks that is what I am gathering. This particular 706 I think that we are going to try to get a 3 point and diesel as it will fit our needs better. So after the rebuild and small amount of field work this spring I think that we will be looking to trade it.

Thank you for all your replies. My father and I are just starting to getting back into running some larger equipment as we have been managing with an H for about 15 years. 74 HP with the 706 has been really nice, but we are going to need a 3 point in the future and keep the H.
