What would be the approximate cost to get a crankshaft for a Farmall A machined? I know prices vary depending on location, I am just wanting an acceptable range. $50-$100 (haha if only right?), $200-500, $500+????

Thanks

I do not remember the exact price but I had one done for a 6 cylinder Chev not long ago and I believe it was a tad bit less then $200 ad I know a 4 cylinder would cost less

Most around here charge by how much has to be done to it. Last one I had machined was 150, but it had to be taken down a good bit on the mains.

Like one poster said, it depends upon how much needs to be done. If the journals only need polished, then it should be around $75-$100. If the mains need turned, then add another $50-60. Rods, yet another $50-$60.

Setup time on the crank lathe is the cost.

You guys who are getting it done for real cheap have to be getting the work done by a machinist buddy for beer money...

If that is the case PLEASE SAY SO.

Don't go around saying, "I got mine built up and reground to stock for $20," like that's normal, because it isn't.

Around here they price it by the journal. That is so much per joutnal to polish, a bit more to grind and more yet to build up and grind. Last one I had done was just a grind .010 under, 15 bucks a journal, 3 mains 4 rod....

It really isn't that expensive.

So what has the local shops give you for a price as it does make a difference where you are located taxes labor and the list goes on and on. Last one i had done couple yrs ago was 100 for rods and main 10thous.
