I have a 1949 m that i want to add live hydraulics to is there a kit or what do i have to do if there is a kit where can i get one.
Thanks in advance

Very difficult to find the pump that mounted ahead of the magneto or distributor, not sure it would match your engine if you did find one. Best option might be a PTO pump, there was one for sale on ths site a couple of days ago. Trying to drive a
pump off the fan pully or belt pully (if you have one) gets more
complicated .... maybe way complicated on the front. Another option might be an electic unit if your tractor has a good battery
and is converted to 12V.

I have never heard of a kit to do that but have heard of using a Hyd pump from a 400 or 450 and putting it between the governor and the distributor. But that is also something about one of the gears on the stock M that is weak and you should also replace that gear. That said to do what you want your looking at $700 plus to do it if your lucky

I put a M&W live hydraulic pump on my M 20 years ago. Still working good ,no problems. I also put a flow divider on it to work the power steering. You may find one on E-bay.

PTO is not live. New aftermarket pumps mounted in front of the distributer are still available $$$.

IH pumps that mount in front of the distributor require a timing cover from a SM, 400, or 450. The hole mounts on a M cover are off just enough that the pump gear will mesh too close to the other gear under the timing cover and create damage if an IH pump is used. Good M & W pumps are very scarce which would mount and drive correctly.
It may be cheaper to upgrade to something else tractor-wise.

Call Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch-785-548-7437. He can get the cheapest price, and also can help with the front cover and cam gear if it is needed. However, expect to pay $800+ for a new one. Mike may or may not have useable old ones.

Direct copy out of Steiner's catalog--best to give descriptions and correspondence by email.

Just bought a cam gear from Mike, Steel Wheel Ranch for my 44 M. Put on a M&W pump. Gear was $150.00 Pump I can"t remember price, it"s been a while. I installed it all, same front cover on M. Works great.

Several people that sell parts read and participate in this forum. Most just say they can get one and leave their email open. Your statement is rather long and amounts to an advertisement, which is banned on this forum. I don't need your parts as I have my own sources.

Do change the timing gear to 400 or 450 numbers.
Do change the covers to allow the use of a standard IH series pump.
Do expect to have more than the pump involved in the setup.
The offer made by Justin is for the pump only. You will need hoses and valving as well as a reservoir (or a stripped out bellypump for a modest 6.5 gallon reservoir) and couplers to make the system. Jim

Sounds like it would be cheaper to sell the M and buy a SM, 400 or 450... SMTA would probably be too high.

Parts are expensive, but at least they are still available. If Gold1456's M is in good shape and doesn't need anything else, and he wants the pump, it's ok. Might be hard to find a SM-up in as good a condition, might be cheaper to keep it. I can easily average $800 every month on one of those tractors, doing my so-called restorations until my budget starts giving me negative numbers, which happens often. Disease is hard to cure.

Bartt,

Those gears must be getting scarce. I paid Steel Wheel Ranch only $60 for the same gear out of a 300 several years ago. I have an extra gear out of a 400. I wonder what it would go for on eBay?
