Farmall A shutter

I have bought a 1948 farmall super A that has a lever and rod that connects to a shutter in front of the radiator. The tractor is in bad shape,i guess i should save the shutter? shutter is in nice condition. was this an option for the A tractors and would it be the same as found on some B"s & C"s ? If i was to sell it,what would be a good price to sell something like this..I searched thru some catalogs and couldnt find a shutter for sale..

ok, absolutely save the rods, the mounts, and the shutters (if they are is usable condition). Shutters are not so common. Original control rods are like hen's teeth.

I paid $95 for my A shutters, and $65 for the control rods (complete). Bought them separately, but feel I got a decent deal on them.

If it has a temp guage with a bracket that mounts to the govenor, that is part of the dual fuel package.

Water neck on the block at the lower part of the rad is also important, as that is where the temp guage sender attaches.

If you were to sell the complete set, you would probably get anywhere from $175 -$200 if you sell on eBay.

IMHO.

Tom,thank you for the info. The shutter and control rod and control lever are in very good original working condition. yes it does have the temp guage that mounts to the governor. yes, lower water pump..I just got the tractor and was gonna scrap it due to needing rims, tires, hood, grill due to being rough..Its a 1948.Now,you say dual fuel? Was this tractor to be run on kero also? The manifold and carburator look to be the same as the one i have on my 43 farmall B and 53 A. I also have another odd farmall A that has a sticker A-cultivision that i wish i could talk to someone about...Has a wierd engine number (FAAMG) and the serial number brings it to be a 1953...The serial number and engine number do not match. The tractor sits high at the front and rear axle..It doesnt sit as high as a farmall AV.. This tractor also has a hydraulic, and the serial number starts out with a FAA- What is the (-) dash mean and what would the MG above the engine number mean? Is it also a super A or just A cultivion? Thank you so much if you know what im talking about.

Shutters and temp gauge were part of the distillate and kerosene options but were also available as individual options on gas powered tractors. Can't help on the other tractor without some pictures.

Shutters and temp could be there and not be a dusl fuel. Your other tractor has the engine changed thats why serial#s are messed up. The linkage and shutters should bring 200 or even more they are very hard to find. They were handy in the winter time we just used a feed sack.
