Farmall A Radiator Leak

My A has developed a leak where the inlet attaches to the tank.

I'm not really sure how it's attached or if it's fixable. The radiator seems to be in good shape other wise.

Is it something I can fix my self or something that a shop should tackle?

I had one that had a small leak at the top not bad so i cleaned it with a wire brush to get clean metal and put rubber cement around and let the hot sun cure it. That was 10yrs ago and no leak. There is no pressure there so it doesent take a lot.

If you can get it cleaned up, solder will also work. What ever solution you pick, the repair area will need to be clean, clean, clean, and then clean again........

If the rest of the rad is in good condition, and that is the only issue, and you aren't comfortable doing it your self. That repair should not cost that much at a reputable radiator shop.

Thanks.

I wasn't sure how solder would work as the inlet looks like it's cast.

Just googling around I see Permatex makes a quick solder repair kit.

Cleaning it will be the tricky part but I think I can get in there pretty well. I'll probably start with something like the Permatex stuff, then if that doesn't work I'll see if I can get it soldered. I would try it my self but I'm worried about getting the tank to hot...it's right at the bottom.

I use the rubber cement they use installing windshields in your car get a small amount from body shop. I have a B that had a crack in the block where they normally get one. Someone had tried to weld and it was a mess water leaked out as fast as you put it in. Ground the area down flush real clean. I put this cement on and had it outside in a hot day to get metal warm applied a nice layer there that was 10 yrs ago tractor gets used a lot even goes on three day tractor rides not a leak in site. Its been painted and now its hard to see the rubber.

you can solder to cast. I put a brand new over flow tube in the top tank of my F-20. soldered it in. No leaks. works. Steel brake line to cast iron tank.

Clean. Flux. correct amount of heat. No prob. clean is the most important for solder. Gene's solution is a very good one, and will work if you are not comfortable soldering it.
