I was doing a little cultivating today, and when I came back to the shed with the 140 and cut it off, I noticed that the carburetor was leaking pretty bad. It only leaks if the tractor is off and the fuel petcock is left on, but I still wanted to look at it. I took off the carb and installed some new gaskets and O-Rings, and I think I am about ready to reassemble. My question is that I was wondering what the proper float level is. I can't call the name of the piece of the top of my head, but it is the little pin that the float taps to stop fuel flow. With that new pin installed, it seems like the float will only move very little. The float does not stick, but there is very little play. Is this the way it is supposed to be? Also, I have read where the engine will only run right if the float is set to specific specs. How does the 140 engine like its float?
Thank you all for your help, SF

Assuming it's a Zenith model 68x7 (will have part no 12911 somewhere on it), the liquid level should be 15/32". The float height height (measured from the top of the bowl gasket to the bottom of the float) should be 1-5/32". Different if it's a Marvel-Schebler.

If I leave the gas tank valve open while the engine is off, I've had them leak but it hasn't affected operation. I alwayd shut the gas valve and let the engine stop when the carb runs empty.

Thank you for your help. After a fairly long ordeal, I got the carburetor reinstalled. Apparently, someone had put locktite on the manifold mounting bolts and glued them to the carburetor. I ended up having to take the air cleaner off the tractor to put the carburetor on. On the plus side, the 140 seems to idle much slower, has better throttle response, and it doesn't seem to leak.
Thanks again for your help, SF
