Super C gas cap

Is there an o-ring or seal that is supposed to go under the gas cap on a Super C? Whenever I fill the tank over half full it will leak out of the filler cap when I turn or hit a bump. Any thoughts? Thanks

Yes. There is supposed to be a gasket in there. Also, the tabs on the cap might be deformed, and the opening in the tank can get distorted also.

Case-IH ran a "recall special" where they would give you a new, new-style gas cap for free for years. Maybe someone on this Site can tell you if it is still an active recall.

The new cap is same design as most "super" models and later, just taller to allow for some splash, slosh, and evap of gas. And it"s safer (more safe) than the original design.

The program is still alive, although it was meant to replace the old style caps, not a missing seal. You can easily make the seal, or buy it from your dealer. They prob even can find one at NAPA. Sometimes if the cap doesn't fit or you get slosh, you can put 2 seals on there to tighten the cap up to the tank.

Navistar, not CaseIH got stuck with the gas cap problem. But, CaseIH happily sells them to whoever wants one.

I sent my serial number in between Thanksgiving and Christmas last year. It took about 2 weeks or so for the replacment to show up. They have to have the serial number to make sure you have not been sent one before.
