Hi I need a new rubber boot that goes over the gear shift lever on the 460 farmall. Does any one know where to buy one?
thank you

There is no rubber boot on the shifter of a 460 from the factory AFAIK. We had a 560 for many years, no boot. I've seen many 60-series tractors and never seen one with a rubber boot on the shifter.

Someone added that to keep the water from getting into the transmission. If you keep the tractor in a barn, it's not needed.

One telltale sign that it's not stock is if it's held on with a HOSE CLAMP.

They either used a CV joint boot, or found a boot from an old pickup truck with a standard transmission. You can find a suitable substitute at NAPA if they have a decent parts guy and you bring what's left of the old boot with you..

I never saw one on from the factory but IH did introduce them for over the counter sales on the 4 and 560 tractors. This was about the same time they changed the little funnel shaped shield on shift lever to accept an o-ring to keep water out. I modify a lot of shift levers to get an o-ring fitted on it. You have to realize the original lever breathes through a slot in that shield so when you seal it up you need to drill a hole in casting where shield protects so trans can breathe.

Thank you all for chimming in, It all helps, And it makes sence, as there was an old and falling apart some type of boot on this rig and the local IH shop had a big blank on thier books for any replacement part...Thank you all.....symour
