Starter issues with an H - electrical or mechanical???

My H runs wonderful, but when I shut it off after about ten uses, the starter will not turn over, even with a charged battery and a clean ground. Swapped in another starter off my M, and everything was fine again until about the tenth time. Swapped in a third starter, and same thing. Starts up fine until about the tenth time, then nothing. Hooked each of the three starters to jumpers and they all worked fine.

I am hoping this is just a bad switch, and not something mechanical. Any ideas?
 
Is the starter binding up? At the time it won't start, try loosening the bolts to the starter and listen for the starter drive to snap back into place, then try again. These old Farmalls are known to do this.
 
You say it does that with all 3 starters so I would be looking at the areas that you take parts loose from and cables off of for where the problem is unless like the other guy say the starter hangs up which is a common problem for the farmall tractors
 
It could be a bad ring gear causing the starter drive to stick in place. I agree with the others and would loosen the bolts and see if the drive comes back.
 
Engines tend to stop in the same places, and over time, you will find the ring gear to be worn in just those places more than others. My bet, like others, is the ring gear.
 
I had the same problem with my H. I took the starter off and filed the teeth in the ring gear, you can tell where it has been sticking.
 
If the starter jams on a bad spot on the ring gear, put the tractor in top gear(5), get off and push back wards on a rear wheel. Rocking the tractor in gear will turn the engine backwards and release the stuck starter.
 
Thanks, really to everybody. First move will be to rock it back. Second move will be to file the ring gear. Third move will be to replace the ring gear.
