I am planning to pull the bolster on my H to change the front timing cover and install live hydraulic pump. I rebuilt the steering gear last year and would prefer not to take it apart.

Can I take the pin out at the middle knuckle and pull the shaft with the bolster?

You probably could. But it's gonna make it hard to handle and I don't see what you would gain. Removing the shaft is not going to upset anything you did last year.

happy Easter.
and if you put it back together with a new gasket or at least some gasket sealer, it still should not leak. good luck.

Do you mean like this? If so, yep, you can!

That is exactly what I want to do. I pulled the cover off the steering gear tonight, and it is still full. I replaced all the bushings and seals a year ago.

I got a strap ready to lift with, will do tomorrow night.
