1256 Injection Pump Removal

I just bought a 1256 that needs some work to the injection pump (has a leak). The IT manual says to remove the turbo and the manifold to pull thep pump. Has anyone pulled the pump without pulling the manifold? Is it possible to pull the manifold and the turbo in one piece instead of taking them apart? Thanks for the help.

I too wondered if it could be done. I've removed pump from 856 and 1456 but did it as I&T manual said. After removing pump with lines attached, I figured out pretty quick that it would be difficult, near impossible, to get the injector lines removed from and reinstalled to the ports on the side of the pump next to the block with the pump in place on the block . And remember, you need to install new gaskets to those lines when reinstalling them to the pump. There isn't room for your fingers to place the gasket, align the banjo fitting, insert the bolt that attaches the banjo fitting to the pump and then to get a grip and stroke with a wrench to tighten it. Best remove the manifold as it says and remove pump and reinstall with lines attached.

I've had the Injector Pump off of my 806 with the manifold still on. Granted, Putting those lines on the back side of the pump is a pain, but it can be done without removing stuff. I've had to change the gaskets on the lines a few times, too. Not super easy, but doable. It kind of depends on how big your hands are, I guess. My hands are kind of big, and I did it. I'd go for it if I were you. -Andy

JW You donot need to pull the turbo and manifold to remove the pump. You just have to be carful with the injection lines. I have had many off 806 856 1206 1256 1456. If you remove the injectors you need to drain the antifreeze because there is a sleve around the injector that holds the antifreeze, if it comes out with injector the antrifreeze goes into to the engine.
The timing mark is on the flywheel on left side of the tractor. Turn engine to TDC, the on the out side oj the injestor pump, there is a plate about 1/2" x 1' with 2 serws to hold it on. Take it off, behind you will see 2 disk, each will have a timing mard on it. If the disk
to the back of the pump is the only 1 with the timing mark turn thr engine 360 degrees and the front disk will show the timing mark. Line the 2 marks up. Now you can remove the pump. Donot forget to shut off fuel. Hope this helps.
