Farmall M Rear Wheels

My Farmall M has 13.5 x 32 rear tyres with solid cast iron centres. It does have wheel weights, but even without these, each half of the cast weighs about 400 lbs. Were these wheels a special attachment or fitting for Australia only?

My guess is yes they are (at least not found in the US) I have never seen split rims like that here in the mid west USA. Interesting. I looked in the "on line listings and found nothing. Jim

Could you possibly have an Industrial AM?Those small size tires makes me wonder....

Not sure if this was for an industrial AM. The rims were, apparently, available as 38" rims, but I have never seen them. My M sits level with 6.00-16 front tyres and 13.5-32 rear tyres. I grew up with the tractor, so it just looks normal to me. The ones I see in the pictures of US machines, with the hollow rims, look really different. I suppose my tractor would look odd to most people. My H has exactly the same type of wheel, but on 28" rims. I guess it must just be an Australian fitting.

These wheels might have been a case of using local suppliers. Instead of shipping wheels with the tractor down under - IH used a local supplier to furnish the wheels (along with some other items).

I know Studebaker shipped cars and truck CKD to Australia and used local sources for seat covers, tyres, and even in some cases, paint.

Looks like a pretty beefy setup. Good luck.

The part list shows that any part that begins with AP means Austrailia Part that is unique to the tractor.

The frame is for an A-84-HB Angling and Tilting Blade (which I have). I posted a message about it on this forum a couple of days ago, with diagrams from IH. I have some photographs of it in action, which I will try to find.

that 2 piece cast rim @ 32inch is a standard wheel set up for an Australian AM farmall there is also a cast 38 inch center that willtake a slip on rim it has a good dish in it it will also have AP in the casting number. not even a wholely and soley imported M had any thing but Au wheels on them , it was part of a govenment decision to get some sort of AU content into the tractors that were coming into OZ
