M w/ Single Front at Auction

Saw an decent looking M with the large single front wheel go for $975 at auction last weekend here in central NY. Had a feeling it was probably worth a good bit more than that - I've never seen an M around here with the single front end. What was it worth?

I don't know the answer to your question about the value of that particular tractor, but the single front wheel was common in some parts of the country. Two areas in particular are in cotton country and in vegetable growing areas. Where I grew up in Colorado the single front was all you ever saw since the tire would fit down into the irrigation furrows whereas the regular tricycle front would not.

Single front tractors are common in furrow irrigated(a single front follows the furrow LOTS better) areas-Ms included. There are not worth any more or less than any other M.

i was at a auction last month and they had a single front and a narrow front they were both in the same shape and the single front went for less it went for $900 and the narrow front went for $1100 so i dont think they are worth more.

Unlike some other manufactures IH made interchangeable front ends, therefore there is no difference in value, only preference of the buyer.

Thanks guys - very interesting answers. There are tons of M's and H's around here, but I have never seen either with a single front - this is fairly hilly country - used to be lots of small dairies.

I feel better now for letting it go without bidding.

They're common here south of Houston. They don't seem to bring as much as the dual fronts.

I have a 300 with the single wheel front. It's a zero turn tractor without standing on the brake. I much prefer the appearance of the dual wheel front end.

In spite of the popularity of the wide front end I don't like the way they look or handle.

Here in Wisconsin they seem to go for more than a narrow front. They are more rare so they naturally sell for more. Yeah, there might be a bunch in Texas and Arizona but that is a long way from here.

here in central iowa you will hardly ever see a single front tractor of any type. specifically for this reason, i like them. got single fronts on my 12 and an F-20

as others stated earlier, which part of the country you live in will determine overall numbers present, and value
