Farmall 450 IPTO cleaning?

I just finished up running diesel throught my tranmission to clean it out. I did notice that when I removed the entire PTO from the tractor and placed the PTO on the groud, OIL came out of a hole on the top. It was VERY BLACK, but very thin. I know it calls for 10W oil, or hytran. I would like to clean it out first. I was wondering if I can put diesel in it also, about 1.5 quarts of it and turn it on for a few minutes then drain and fill with the correct oil. Just don't want to mess a perfectly good running PTO.

I see no problem with pouring some diesel in the PTO and running it under no load for a few minutes to clean it out.
