Weight of an H

What size tires? How many sets of wheel weights?

external_link will tell you the weight of the bare, dry tractor.
Ballaststar.com will tell you the weight of the fluid in the rear tires.
If the wheel weights are standard IH single-piece, they are 300 pounds per set (a set is two total weights, one for each rear wheel).

I thought my manual told the tracgor weight, but it doesn't.
Weight of Rear wheel weights depends on age of the farmer. When I was a young man, in the morning, they weighed like themanual says, 145# each. (Fr0nt weights weigh 42 1/2 # each.)

Now I'm retired, the rears weigh about 900# each.

About 4000 lbs. plus tire ballast and other weights. If you want close weight will have to weigh it to be sure.

(quoted from post at 04:23:58 04/15/11) Anyone have an idea how much one weighs? It has loaded tires with wheel weights on the rear.

Thanks for your help.

Probably will weigh close to 5,000. Too heavy for the typical car hauler trailer.

As they came from the factory with standard equipment and no options they were listed as 3875#. Of course with additions, wheel weights, bigger tires and etc. will probably be more now.

I think that is correct. Everyone also needs to understand that a "no options" tractor was just that. The PTO, belt pulley, and the hydraulic belly pump are ALL options, and I would guess the weight of EACH to be in the 75 to 100 pound range, so now the weight is up to about 4,200 pounds. Adding just one set of rear wheel weights and it is up to 4,500, and we haven't even calculated the weight of the fluid in the tires.

Rusty, they typical car trailer has two 3500 lb axles under it. Making it a 7000 rating. Most trailers don't weight more than 1500 lbs. That leaves 5500 lbs for payload. And remember, a portion of that is being carried by the truck as well.

Most Hs aren't close to 5500 unless weighted up a bunch. Heck, some Ms aren't that heavier either either. My Super M with me on it is 6000 even. I have 600 lbs of wheel weights on it. The biggest issue is typically width.

I disagree.

Yes, I know all about the ratings on those car trailers, and a GOOD car trailer will weigh closer to 2,000 pounds, which leaves only enough capacity to haul 5,000 pounds. Yes, the trailer will probably get the job done, but you would need to take extreme care in loading the tractor so that the weight is distributed correctly.

Everyone seems to lump all bumper pull car trailers together. If you want to pay price you can get aluminum bumper pull car trailers with 8,000 lbs. or more payload rating and empty weight under 2,000 lbs.

Sure can, but hold onto your wallet.

You got that right but just think about how cool you would look pulling into show grounds with shiny new Featherlite aluminum trailer.
