1951 M Farmall with 3 Point--Did I Get Skinned?

I recently bought a 1951 M with add-on 3- Point hitch, not the high-dollar super-great 3 point, but a decent one with two cylinders. Owner was moving out of state, but had just done a top-bottom end overhaul with new clutch. Oil pressure pegs the gauge (shows 45 psi). Front tires were shot, rear tires very marginal, but still plugging along. All sheet metal there and good, even had the little screen in the grill. After some trading around, I've got $1800 in her. Did I get skinned? Oh, it has the "crooked" gear shift in it, if that means anything. Good little powerful tractor. Thanks for your comments
 
You can't be skinned if you are satisfied with the price. The seller is happy because he got at least part of his overhaul money back. Front and rear tires will cost you about $1200.
 

The 3 point alone is easily worth half what you paid, so if you want to look at it that way, you paid $900 for the tractor, and considering all the work that is already done, I'd say you got a bargain.
 
i think you did fine. the o/h kit will run you 5-600 for parts, plus machine work, figure another 300+ , a clutch will run 250 or so. the prev owner prolly threw cose to 1k in the oh and clutch. plus the 3 pt. you done good. hit some farm sales for a decent set of clamp on duals, the put the tires on your tractor. clamp on duals will run 50 to 250 at the most for a set.
 
It probably depends on where you are but I agree with the guy who says its a $900 tractor with a $900 3pt hitch. Good deal.
 
It really bothers me that everybody always says "the hitch is worth $900 so there is a $900 discount right off the bat." No, it is worth $900 brand new from Saginaw. For one, we don't know if it is a Saginaw. Also, I would never pay full price for something that is used. I rarely pay more than half price for something that is used. IMO, it is a $4-500 option when already on the tractor.
