424 progress

Been making lots of progress on my lil IH 424. It was one of those tractors that you buy and it runs good but everything else needs some TLC to be usable.

Last year I went to fix the hole in the lower rad hose and it ended up stuffing the fan threw the bottom of the radiator. So much for progress.....
Fixed that and then the starter started throwing fits. 1 turn of play in it. Kinda hard to do loader work and chase the wheel to say the least. Better get real serious in fixing it.

I took the loader off it to fix the steering. Had good news when I got the the steering box off and apart. It was only the keyway that was really wallowed out. Like 3/8" wallowed out  I ended cutting a new keyway by hand and then making a 3/8" key / then cut the steering arm to fit.

Pulled the starter and it needed a solenoid really bad and some brushes.
Adjusted the valves and screwed with the carb.
Got it back together and it runs really well and has under a 1/4 turn of play at the wheel. Pretty excited to actually use it for once. NOT ! hook the rototiller up and the pto wont engage - so much for a 2 stage clutch.... Pull the cover and find it has a about new clutch atleast :D Ended up being the pedal needed re-adjusted.

Now the lift isnt working right lifts fine with no weight on it. Put the rototiller on it and it picks it halfway up. It doesnt bleed down tho. I went looking for the filter but couldnt find it. Fluid looks to be down about 3" from the top.

Any ideas on this?

So, you like your gasser, eh?

I have a diesel, and it's may favorite 'lil tractor of all time!

There's NO hydraulic "filter", just a screen on the suction line at the bottom of the 3-pt unit and a screen in the pressure line in the area at the base of the steering wheel.

I like it so far - as it works better and better. The power assist is nice :D Far as favorite no.... I have 20 something tractors to play with is the problem :D I actually have a ford 641 thats my work and everything tractor. Its unfortunately in pieces for the winter. I decided to rering it, but that really snowballed. Ended up building a hot rod motor for it. Custom camshaft, ported head, 8:5:1 compression, balanced it - perfect work tractor motor. Then I solved the go fast problem by buying a sherman trans for it and a howard transmission.

How do I get that link to work? comes up as a error. I tried other ways of opening it - then it asks me for a dealer login.
