806 Shifter

Was moving round bales the other day and found the shift lever had dropped from second into fourth while driving thru the field. Pushed it back to second and it just dropped back into fourth (without changing gears). When I got back to the barn it was "stuck" in the fourth gear position, though It's still in second gear.
Suggestions? Wait...I meant "helpful" suggestions??

As memory serves me, if you take the plate off that is on the column between your clutch and brake pedals, you'll be able to see the arm and linkage that shifts your speed transmission. If you take the floorboard up, you'll also have a good view. May want to take both up. Actually, I think you have to take the one off the column to get the floorboard up anyway. Don't remember exactly without looking at it. Move lever, see if that arm going into tranny moves. If it does, problem is probably under that cover. If it don't move while moving lever, you might have a broke pin somewhere higher up and you'll have to take the covers off by the steering wheel to see what you're doing.

Good luck! -Andy

remove the plate that is right in front of the voltage regulator, you should see a shaft going into a bigger pipe, check to see if there is a roll pin in the drilled hole of the collar the small shaft goes into

Thanks everyone - I'll try to get out there Tuesday to check it out.

Oh, Cadillac would be quite a drive for me if you needed help. I was going to offer, but I live probably 3 hours away. Good luck fixing it though! -FC Andy
