My Son's Farmall 1206 will start fine then, the
rpm's will start falling off after about 30 seconds
and will finally die. He has changed the fuel filter
and removed and cleaned the check valve and screen
at the injection pump inlet. Getting plenty of fuel
to the pump. This pump is a "Roosa-Master" fuel
injection pump. Before he remove the pump to get it
repaired, is there something else I should try? Any
help would be appreciated. He Really need the old
girl to roll hay in about two weeks. Ken Sweet

I had a similar problem with my IH 464 diesel recently. I replaced both fuel filters, but it didn't help. I had to take them off again and check the gaskets. Turns out, the gaskets were put in wrong and sealed off the fuel flow. If your tractor is diesel (and for now I'll assume it is, since you mention an injection pump, when a gasser would have had a carburetor), you should be sure to bleed your lines when you replace the filters, otherwise it can cause a problem like yours.
It is hard to be sure what your problem is, but it DEFINITELY sounds like a fuel problem. Here is what is happening: You crank the tractor, run it out of fuel, it cuts off, fuel flows back to where it is supposed to be, and then it can crank back up.
Good luck, and keep us posted about what the problem was, SF

Hi Ken Sweet,
I have seen the hose from the filters to pump crack inside and slow or stop fuel flow.It creates little flats inside. I would replace that hose and only with oem.

I think you have a plugged fuel return. There is a little check valve on top of the injection pump cover in the fuel return. Take the T and check valve out and see if it will run with that out. Look in check valve for tiny particles of plastic, if you find them, it means the elastocast govenor ring has failed and pump needs repairs shortly. If you don't find anything blocking check ball, blow back into return line to tank, take cap off first.

I had the same problem with my 1256.A little rubber deal inside the pump started to disintegrate(age) and plug up the pump. When the engine quit, the particles fell away and the engine would restart.Remove the punp timing port and see if there is little bits of rubber in there.if so-that is your problem. It cost me less than $200 to have it repaired. You will have to pull the pump.
