884 Tractometer/RPM guage

Hello I am on the 8n forum from time to time but an older friend of mine has an IH 884, 1982 model. He wants to put a new rpm gauge, but swears he has no place to install the mechanical cable that came with the gauge he purchased for his tractor. Does anyone know where the cable would install? The old cable is missing and he is sure it should have an electric type cable not mechanical. I appreciate any help so I can help him out Thanks. PS it is a diesel

I found a plug where I think the tach drive assembly should be, any idea where I can get the rest of the parts? Right now I just have a new guage,a new cable and a hole in the front? Thanks

The drive for tach comes off front of cam shaft so if that is where you found a plug you are in the right place. Far as a drive, probably have to go to CASEIH unless you can find one from a salvage yard. I think a 706, 826 and any of the 84 or even newer models using that german engine are the same drive.

if the cam was a clock the plug is at about 10 or 11 oclock in the block. I found some on the parts sight but none would "screw" in like this plug does. I may be in the wrong place on the tractor but when I stick my finger in the whole I feel a slot

The online parts book, 884, group 12-28, parts 7 through 12. The adaptor screws into cover and tach drive into adaptor.
