The grill has the wider lower metal piece like the Super C. Since the radiator is taller there is noticable space between the top of the hyd reservoir and the bottom of the gas tank. All casting codes should end in Z, unless a casting has been replaced. However there were about 600 SA's produced in early 1954. Also the A1 has a water pump. If it has a temperature gauge the sensor is in the UPPER radiator outlet. The engine block should have C123 cast on it. Chassis serial begins with FAA1, first one produced has serial 356001; engine serial prefix is FCM.

What was the purpose of the prefix FCM late model had different prefixes. The B dad took delivery in August 47 has a different prefix. The cast codes were late in July and it was delivered on the farm Aug 20th. They didnt mess around from casting to delivery.

Gene, not sure I understand the question. The C and SC have FCM engine prefixes, the FAAM engine prefix of the SA was changed to FCM with the SA1 123. As you know the prefix can be used to tell which tractor an engine is off of. But with the 123 it would be difficult to tell if an FCM came off a SC or SA1 unless you know the which engine serial is which, not that it really makes any difference where the engine came from. Probably in 1947 IH was still trying to meet demand after WWII, so they didn't have time to store castings. Overall, I'm not sure IH held many castings when production was high, just that a tractor may have an older casting for whatever reason.
