On citeing the differances in 400 460 people often say the hydrulics are better on the 460 and i don't understand?? On the 400 the pump is exposed out in the open and the 460 is burryed and if a seal leaks in the trans you get to split! Would someone tell me why this is better?? Please!! Bud.

The hydraulic systems are very similar. The pump(s) on the 460 are accessible without splitting the tractor. They are mounted on the inside of the plate on the left side of the clutch housing. The 460 has the advantage of the pumps being driven off the IPTO drive line rather than the camshaft so that might be considered an advantage.

400/450 each had about 3 gal. of hyd. oil cap. Starting with 460/560 they used the top 6 or 7 gallons of Hy-tran in the trans. case. I have an I.H. 14 ft. barge wagon with a single-acting hyd. cyl. that was not the right cylinder for that long box and the 400(also the M) could not fully extend that cylinder. Also the 560 has an optional 16 gpm pump which I have installed on my 560D. Also don"t forget the dedicated power steering pump that is piggybacked onto the main hyd. pump which a better job of providing the proper amount of oil to the power steering. Armand
