H jumping out of 5th gear

I have an H that jumps out of 5th gear. What is the most mlikely culprit? I had to replace some gears in the tansmission and used what I thought were the best ones I had on hand and every thing looked fine.

The front bearing on that shaft can cause it to jump out of gear. Also, when you had it off did you take the shift rails off and check the springs that push the balls into the detents?

In addition to SFlem849, I will ad that the teeth of fifth are small splines on the input shaft, and internal splines on the slider. They do not engege more than 3/16 to 1/4" and are subject to wear as the tractor is raked into fifth from 4th. Center bearing can contribute, but if it feels like the shifter knob moves 1/2" when going into engagement, the splines are probably the issue. Jim

Are you referrring to the pilot bearing? I replaced it as well as the gears that had teath missing. I have had about a dozen Hs and this is the first one that has had that problem. Thanks for your replies.

I agree with Jim. It is not like 2 gears meshing but like a short coupling with coarse splines. Jim, if you see this, E-Mail me some time. Thanks.

If the guy had the trans apart and checked out the gears (I would hope) he would have noticed if it was bad. That is what makes me start thinking about the bearings.
