I pulled the shifter out of tranny, and it looked very worn. I had a man weld onto the end of the shifter to make it thicker. Not much improvement. It also make a growling sound sometimes, which I suspect is the transmission trying to pop out of gear.

Any one have an idea the deminsions of the end of the shifter which moves the gears?

thanks so much.

With the lever out, use a small clean stick to fit into the rails. (in neutral) whittle it down till it fits well front to back, and side to side in one rail notch. round the bottom corners and top recess so it can move the rails forward and back. Make your shifter the same, Try it and grind or file off just enough to make it work freely but snugly. Jim.

Also check the pin and shifter hole for wear. This is another major wear spot that should/could be tightened up.
