Last chance for B414 glow plugs

I am at the LAST straw. I have 4 710348R1 glow plugs and a 3042230R91 indicator. I have them wired on my bench. 12V to indicator then thru plugs in series to ground and indicator goes white hot in 2-3 secs and plugs barely warm. bypass indicator and plugs get hot too fast. Tried 6V and with indicator, it got white hot slower but plugs still only warm. Bypassed indicator with 6V and plugs glowed nice red hot in 15-20 secs. To me I have the wrong indicator but the Case IH dealer says that is the only one. Any help out there? Thanks, Don from Canada

CIH calls your "indicator" a resistor. Why a resistor I have no idea.

Resistance impedes current (electron) flow and reduced current flow = no glow as you've clearly seen.

I assume that the glow plugs share a common ground with the cylinder head? If so that means they are all in parallel, even though they have a common + wire hooked to their spades.

If you are wiring them, on the bench, such that you have a wire to the spade then from the glow plug body to the next spade and so on and so forth then you are wired in true series. The current draw would be very small as the resistance would be large (sum of all resistances individually = Rtotal). V=I*R and P=V*I. Glow plugs would not glow well...

Wire them in series. A common wire across the spades and then 2nd common wire from the bodies / threads back to battery ground.

Don I think you have a faulty resistor unit. I have done the same test many times and the resistor unit and the 4 glowplugs heat up together.I have a new resistor here in my hand and it has the following markings BOSH GERMANY 0251 002 068 if this is any help. The system works as follows, the resistor takes 6 volts and the 4 glowplugs take 1.5 volts each adding up to 12 volts. I hope this will help you. MJ

Thanks MJin the UK. That is the resistor I have burnt out and have another one now and it gets white hot before plugs do anything. Plugs have 9V on them.
