okay iv got an h with only the right side brake working. by right side i mean if you were sitting on the tractor. i press the left brake pedal in and it just sticks there and i gotta pull the pedal back really hard to get it back to its origional position. i disconected the linkages and everything moves smoothly till i get to the connection that goes into the brake cover. it wont move at all. is it in need of some lubrication or adjustment or whats the problem here? im somewhat inexperienced and im just lookin for suggestions. thanks!

it probably wouldnt hurt to take everything apart and clean/grease the pivot points and such. has the tractor been sitting for a while? my M kinda does the same thing but it sat for almost 15 years, I just havent gotten around to go thru them yet.

na, i use this tractor alot and it rarely sits for more than a week. but, i did buy this tractor a little over a year ago and who knows how long it may have sat before. that brake hasnt worked since iv owned it.

The brake pan that contains the braking system has an activating rod that runs through the side of the brake pan and into the transmission housing of the tractor. The end mounts into a brass bushing which fits into a hole in the transmission casting. This bushing is likely worn and the brake activator rod is likely corroded and rusted so much that it will not let the brake move freely. Remove all bolts holding the pan in place and the whole works incuding the cativating rod will come out with some work..because it is likely rusted you will have to lube/pry/wiggle /get a pry bar under the pan and as close to the trans mount as you can..I wrestled one for half a day before we drove a large pry bar in and moved it.Once you get that brake pan and all the assembly(in one piece) you should be able to figure out what needs cleaned and lubed/new parts and/bushing. The trans housing hole can be cleaned up with a dremel tool. You can buy brass bushings from your Case-IH dealer, or buy a piece of brass stock and make your own..good luck/be patient getting that brake pan off.

Those are adjusment screws that shove up on the brake band to keep the band adjusted as "round "as it can so the greatest surface of the band rubs the drum when the brakes are applied. Once everything is together you set the brakes with those screws
