Here are pictures of my 1947 Farmall H with a Nine Speed. Purchased this from a guy who was just going to haul it in for scrap. It is stuck and missing a few things. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet, It would be a big restoration project or a good parts tractor.

So this has the M&W Nine speed?

Thanks for reading!

Looks like a good parts tractor to me, especially if the engine is stuck. I've had good luck selling parts on this site and on Craigslist. I'm glad that you bought it and saved it from getting scrapped. Is the barrel a big hydraulic reservoir or is it for something else?

The interesting thing is that belt pulley totally destroyed. It's like one of those cutaway sales items. I'd definitely save that as a real conversation piece at a show. In fact I will trade you a good one for that.

It has some goodies on it with the live hydraulics, Christmas Tree Valve (?), 9 speed (knob and cable anyway), glass jar air cleaner, and who knows what else. Maybe M&W LPTO, PS, and stroker crank. At some point, somebody spent some money on it. Wonder what mounted ahead of front tank?

Sad to see a piece of red iron go to waste like that. It would take a very big effort to get it back in shape. I would dismantle it and sell what you can. That way some one will get the benefit of the parts. JMHO

i am not sure why you folk in USA , find it so easy to part some thing out... :( :( :( :( :( :( that tractor to me is almost complete, what better start to a project do you need , some of my projects start off at only half there . there is plenty of places to find parts ..its is a real shame to part out an old tractor , i would put it out there for new young enthousist to make a start in the hobby...maybee there is not that many people interested in old tractors ... parting out old tractors that there is not a lot wrong with is a sign of not a real tractor lover.. sorry thats my bit

I agree that way too many tractors get parted out, and I hate to see any of this old iron end up in a scrap yard, but when you consider just how many Farmall Hs are still in existance, and how many of them are still running and being used on a daily basis, it really doesn't make sense for us in the United States to take on a restoration project that has several missing pieces, broken parts, etc., when we can go out and find an H that is already running for not too much more money.

Too make it even worse, there are also way too many greedy folks with dollar signs in there eyes who think they can get rich by knocking these grand old tractors in the head and then selling the parts off one at a time.
Needless to say, I consider those folks to be nothing more than vultures.

If expensive genuine CaseIH parts are evil, and cheap Chinese reproduction parts are evil, and parting out tractors is evil, how are we supposed to fix our tractors?

Not all genuine Case-IH parts are expensive, and not all of the aftermarket parts come from China. If the market was not flooded with used parts, the demand for new parts would be greater, the price would come down, and the quality would go up.

i agree that we need some parts tractors
i just dont think we need to srap out every 1 that we find that has a wheel missing or a stuffed manifold or water in the cylinders ..
yes it is good that it was saved from a scrap dealer, but it all seems to revolve on whats it worth or how much it cost . not to many say it is a shame to scrap it ,or put the effort into incourageing some young fella to start a life of tinkering. if i find a tractor.if i find a tractor that i do not wish to restore ,i will put a lot of effort into finding it a new owner. if i find half a farmall M i will have it in my mind that i would like to piece it back together some day.. maybee U.S.A is just to lucky and have to much to choose from.
its always good to read a good ending to a story when somebody has just found his gran-pa,s old tractor that got sold away 30 years ago and to have it back in the family.. you know each and every old tractor out there belonged to somebodys grandpa
i all the time see people worried about the price and the cost off moving the tractor    the way they are all getting torn through ,there will be none left for future generations to restore ,, yes there will be plenty of painted ones in collections.. but there will be none of the thrill of the discovery and chase down the owner.
i have purchased to tractors in USA and need to tack $4000.00 dollars onto the price of each one by the time i get them home.. makes a $1500.00 F30 a very expensive toy to have laying around :( all for the love of tractors ...not money.
