460 oil bath air cleaner question

So i took the air pre cleaner off my tractor to clean it and found it to be very dirty (thanks to the previous owner) it was actually filled to the top with dust/corn residue!!! i ended up taking the whole thing apart from pre cleaner to carburator. my question is the larger peice that contains the wire mesh in it has a small air breather vent thingy towords the top of it right below where the rubber hose leads to the pre cleaner and it is bent over/pinched off as to stop the flow of air through it. Is it supposed to be like this? Thanks in advance!

no that had a rubber hose on it that went to what would be the pvc valve on the valve cover,no valve on the valve cover just a tube where the hose connects. larry

This is a '62 560 and will be similar. I don't believe early tractors had the vent hose but I reserve the right to be wrong.

IH sent out a letter to pinch that off at the air cleaner and put a plug in the top of the valve cover as it only led to premature dirt build up in the air cleaner and it was not needed or used anymore. Pinched many of them.

Only one more question on this (i think) what do you mean by putting a plug in the top of the valve cover Pete 23? are you talking about putting a plug in that little air vent itself on the inside?

The elbow on top of the valve cover is 1/4 NPT. Remove the elbow and replace with a pipe plug.

Yours is on a 460 i have a 450 with the same setup. My tube comes out on the rocker cover side and a short hose to the cover.
