Thanks Dave. Would be nice if that list could be posted somewhere in the "Research and Info" area.

Here's a question: One of my kids has a '48 M. All the casting codes show R as the last character except the main tranny tub. It's date code ends in 48 (corresponding to the others' "R" code).

Incidentally in addition to the IHC part number the tub also has the letters CWC prominently cast on it. I've seen the same CWC mark on castings on Oliver tractors, Continental and Waukesha engines, etc.

I presume this casting was outsourced to CWC when the IHC foundry could not meet production demand?

Bob think the CWC was or is a foundry in Muskegon Michigan named Cambell Wyatt Cannon that made castings for IH. Seem to see more 47 and 48 like you posted than other years. Think also saw 46 and 49 before.
Some 51 M tractors and others have the letter U on castings or some castings with U and some castings with W.
Some say there's some V castings around in that time frame. Never found any myself.

Ive seen what looks like "V", but when I looked real close, it was jst a poorly cast "W". Ive seen only one date/year cast, 48. I havent seen any others.

There were definitely "U" castings. I am sure I have seen some "V", but I have to grant that they may have been a low grade "W". They are definitely hard to find. I have a tractor with a couple "47" castings.

I once saw a "V" on an H or M belt pulley housing in a guys junker row. I went back a couple years later intending to take a picture and couldn't find it. If I ever find one again, I will take pictures.

The bottom line is that IF you do find a "U" or a "V" it will mean 1951. So whenever I make a list, I list "U, V, W" for 1951.
