I've got a chance to buy a 460 diesel narrow front with a loader and a 560 diesel widefront for 1700 each or the owner is gonna scrap them. What should I do guys? They're both a little rough and the 460 has some injector issues. Just don't think I can let em go to scrap for that money. Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks, Tony

For that price I say buy both of them. Where are you located? I may be interested in the 460. Good luck.

I would call him out. They aren't worth close to that as scrap. He will only get $1700 for the both of them at the scrap yard.
Think about the tires and all the other non-metal they are going to knock him on. Then think about the fact that he is going to have to load and haul them to the scrap yard. Figure $275/ton to be generous and they each way 3 tons they would be worth $1650. That wouldn't take any of his fuel cost or time into account or what they will dock him for four big rear tires and four fronts.

Before you get all silly i would make shure you really want those old diesels! I would go to the fellows place unannounced on a cold morning and tell the seller you want to see both started cold,no excuses!! If you still think you want either or both, before i spent a nickle i would contact Pete 23 and pick his brain!!! I bought a 460 diesel last fall for $ 1,000. spent another $ 1,500 to $ 2,000 and if it's cold it makes a good boat ancher!! Im as far from a expert as anyone but ask Pete 23 what he thinks!!!!!!!! Bud.

I agree with sflem849. The value is high for scrap. If the tires are loaded, and wise scrap yard will know. I'd not pay $1700/ea for tractor headed to the scrap yard. If they are running tractors, rough or not $1800-$2000 for the pair would be a fair offer. Heck, I just paid $2700 for an A-C 180 that I am working on, drove 700 miles round trip to get, bought new rears, minor parts, and cosmetics, as well as it needs paint! I figure I will have $4000 before I'm done and it's an ORANGE ONE!

Block heater for 2 hours before you need the tractor, and good glow plugs on all cylinders... It'll fire first time every time unless the injector pump is shot or the engine is completely wore out.

Frankly, I hate it when people wag their finger in your face and say, "If you don't buy it, it goes to the scrapper!" FINE! Send it to the scrapper. Don't threaten me. It's only an old tractor, and there are plenty of others just like it out there.

But, at $1700 each, I'd offer him $3000 cash money for both.
