Need Help removing 90 degree PTO from Super A??

I need to remove the 90 degree PTO drive from my Super A tractor. The reason I am removing it is because I will never use it (the tractor is used for cultivating only), and the seal in the drive unit is bad allowing all fluid to run out. I figured I"d remove it, and use the extra money to purchase new accessories for my tractor. I have a parts tractor with the "block off" plate already too.

So, what is the issue? It should be as simple as removing the bolts, pulling the gearbox off, sliding the cover on, and replacing the bolts.

Don't think for a minute you have a valuable desirable part there once you're done... You're not going to be able to "bling out" your tractor with the proceeds from selling the gearbox.

(quoted from post at 19:26:19 04/04/11) I thought the same the cover is whats hard to find as noone is looking for belt pulley drive.

I was going to only ask $75 dollars for it since I've seen most of them selling for around $100. I'm sorry, but I didn't realize that I just unbolted it and bolted on the cover. I didn't know it would just slide right out. Also, can the same bolts be used back when bolting on the cover, or will the length be different?? I am sure a gasket will need to be made as well. THANKS

People are ASKING $100. But how many are selling at that price? That's the part we don't know.

If they're bringing that much on ebay, then putting it on ebay is the way to go to sell it. You're not going to get $75, or even $50 if you advertise it on craigslist.

I beg to differ. I've sold 3 within a couple years and looking back I got $100 for a couple of them & $80 for one that needed a seal. So.....

Gave $50 for a complete PTO Assy + Belt pulley Assy for my SA a couple of years ago.

Found the old block off plate yesterday while cleaning the shop.

If all you want to do is remove the belt pulley while leaving the PTO assy intact then you need the cover with the bubble on it to clear the bevel gear. Those are a bit pricey the last I saw.

Also be aware if you advertise it as the shifting tube has different clutch dog ends on it when going from an A to a SA / 100 / 130 / 140.

You talking about removing the PTO too or just the pulley attachment? If you only remove the pulley attachment, you also need to remove the bevel gear. Otherwise you won't have an attachment to sell, just some parts.

By the way, are you running it with the pulley removed from the shaft and no spacer in place of it? If so, it will leak even with a good seal.

Yea,

I got it taken off. It was as easy as you all said. I cut a gasket for the block off plate, and its sealed up nicely. Those others I had were already off the tractor, so this is the first one I've removed myself. Thanks for the help!!!

Use the same bolts to mount the delete cover. It is easy enough to seal the end bearing. If you have shim spacers on the end and you have replaced the seal, oil can still leak through the shim spacers. Never heard anyone else say so, but I put gasket seal between the spacers before I remounted mine. If someone has run your PTO without a spacer on the end of the pulley shaft you may well have lost a seal ring that meshes into the flutes and mates up to the seal. Nothing holds it in place but a spacer or pulley. Without that ring it will leak oil. Even so, it will seep a little oil even when properly installed and with a good seal. The spacers are 2 1/8" long and can be made up of 1 1/4" pipe. Use a rolling pipe cutter to make the cut.
