Looked at the Super M, what's it worth?

Starts great and runs well. I was able to run it through a few gears and the clutch seemed good and did not pop out of gear. Tires are shot and need to be replaced. No remotes and the brakes need to be replaced or adjusted.

What would the going rate be on this?

12v conversion? Interesting battery box ;)

Couple interesting things about it, I've got a '52 that looks pretty much just like it.
Missing: Battery box, PTO cover, tail light (may have been optional, the tube for it isn't their either).

The starter switch I think was added later, mine has a lever down at the base of the steering column which I think is right for a Stage I Super M. The way the battery cable routes up there I think agrees with me. I don't like the look of it, especially if it rubbed through the insulation and started sparking on the gas tank.

The rubber hose on the gas line doesn't excite me greatly but it wouldn't be hard to make up a new line.

What is the rubber hose behind/up over the governor?
Is that a block heater plug hiding in that picture too? Nice addition if you were going to plow snow or otherwise work in the winter.

Anyway overall not a bad machine, I'd offer $1000 and be prepared to walk away. Tires will add money quick, the other stuff is all pretty easy to deal with.

I agree with the others. If the engine runs well I'd offer around $1,000. The factory wide front could add a couple hundred $ to that.

Tires/rims could be an issue. If the rear tires are loaded the rims may be corroded and need replacement. Figure about $500 for new rims; $1,100 for tires.

The tires don't really look that bad, They are Goodyear Torques? Shoot if it doesn't blow blue smnaoke, has compression over 100, and like another poster said "if it doesn't need paint?"
I think you are OK up to 1300 dollars. Nothing like the sound of a Super M.
Downside. It uses more fuel than my new Farmall 95.

That does look like an external block heater, Pretty nice tractor. Needs a battery box, the typical missing plate in the grill and the gas line replaced. The WFE ad's some value to it, The back tires don't look to bad but i would replace the fronts with some 3 ribs. Id say the 12-15 range is about spot on.

There are probably not too many Super Ms out there with complete radiators shutters systems left on them. It looks like it could be a challenge to hand crank it.

I agree, the rear tires actually look pretty good, but the pictures didn't show much of the rims. I've seen a lot worse looking tires on tractors working every day in the field.

Thanks for the info!

The rear tires are cracked up pretty bad and the rims do have some rusting around the edge of the rims. Nothing too bad imo.

What narrow fronts will exchange with the SM? I'd like to swap out the WFE if I can.

(quoted from post at 18:52:07 04/03/11) it looks like a pretty decent tractor except for that junky WFE on it... thousand buck range!

What are you talking about, junky wide front!? That original IH wide front is worth 6-800 just by itself.

Shawn, any narrow front from an M, MD, 400, 450, 560 will fit.

Here is my junk pile. I bought this knowing that the motor was weak but I sure did'nt think the block was going to be cracked through the center cam bearing. It came with a new clutch disc, new brakes, generator, starter and a distributor and all nice sheet metal except the batt. box. I gave $1500 for this and made the guy deliver it about 50 miles.

Running M's in my area go $1500 plus. The rear tires look better than the tires on my 504 and i use it regular (I do have a set of used ones on rims ready). It does have an OEM WFE, nice. I'd start low at $900 and stop at $1500. Your gut or ego will decide. There are many that pop up on EBAY, auctoins, and the papers.

One day I'd like to have a MD or SMTA-D. Not a big gasser fan, but nice working tractor never the less!
