2 Row Bottom Plow that I have cleaned up will not lower. It operates by pulling a lever that turns a gear attached to the wheel that allows the plow to raise and lower but when it starts to lower the bar attached to the gear runs out of length like there is a rod or spring or something missing.Any one have any ideas ? Ithink it maybe a AC bottom plow but not sure.

A few good pictures would help identify it and go a long way toward getting a reliable answer.

that is the old power lift system. it operates with a trip rope. all the old machinery used this before hydraulics took over. found on plows, cultivators, tillers, and seed drills. even if you are stationary and pull the rope the plow should fall down. when you are moving the wheel rotates and locks it in the down position.when you come to the end of the furrow you pull the trip rope and the rotating wheel wheel locks it in the up position. not much in there , just a cam and roller. might want to take it apart and give it a good cleaning as it may be full of dirt and dried grease preventing it from operating properly. you can then check for wear were the roller operates.

I disagree, my plow Little genious after the rope is pulled I need to drive ahead and as I do the wheel turns allowing the plow to drop. The deere plows will just drop down but the three IH plows I have do not.

ok, didnt know the ih had to be moving, as have jd plow. maybe thats the problem then need to be moving when rope is pulled.
