I have a 460 Farmall with 2 point and teledepth, can anyone explain to me how this actually works with lets say pulling a 2 point plow? Thanks in advance!

Matt

It would take a book for a detailed explanation. In general, if the system senses heavy pulling, it will raise the hitch to lift the plow out of the ground slightly. As the pull load becomes lighter, the hitch will lower the plow further into the ground.
Without teledepth, if the plow pulls hard and the rear wheels begin to dig into the ground, the plow will go deeper, the wheels dig deeper, the plow goes deeper, until you can't go any further.
It will also lighten the load through tough spots.

I was under the impression that tel-a-depth was only a position control system and the draft control was a separate mechanical component of the hitch (controlled by the lever with the clicks on the left side).

By position control I mean the relative position of the lever in its operating range was representative of the cylinder's stroke position. In theory you could put the cylinder to the same position any time without a mechanical cylinder stop, and were able to temporarily bypass the setting with only the movement of the lever instead of getting off the tractor to fiddle with a stop clamp.
This is done with a special hydraulic valve in the valve bank and a feedback linkage connected to the rockshaft. The valve and feedback linkage act like a 3 way household switch and 2 kids playing lights on lights off, only with fluid instead of electrons.

The teledepth is for positioning the hitch only and the draft control portion of the hitch is controlled with the large handle lever on left side. Higher you pull lever up, more sensitive hitch is. You must have the lower float lockout pin removed to utilize draft control. My suggestion "forget about it" unless you are plowing contoured up and down land. Then it may keep a more even depth control of the plow than you can manually. Have to remember, all draft controls attempt to maintain a steady draft on tractor so if front of tractor goes down, mounted plow goes up, with draft control it will automatically sink that plow in to keep even pull and vis versa when front goes up. On varying easy and hard pulling land it will vary the depth of the plow to maintain the even draft. In our level land around here it was just basically locked out, but I have seen it work well on hilly land with the newer draft controls systems but not on that old mechanical type you have on that tractor.

Thanks guys, i think i'll invest in a manual, the operators manual doesn't cover/let alone hardly speak of word about the fast hitch. Must have been a strategy to make more money for IH.
