Sad day/End of an Era

Today is a sad day in Big Rock, IL. As of the end of business today, DeKane Equipment will no longer be a Case IH dealer. In CNH's infinite wisdom, they would rather have no dealer than one with a small market share. They would rather have their customers (the ones who don't turn green) drive 30-40 miles to the next dealer than keep one within 5-10 miles. They don't care that this dealership, in one form or another, has had a continuous IH contract since the 1880's, and the current ownership has held it for 57 years. No, they only care about their own bottom line, and how the company looks to the stockholders, not the customers they are supposed to serve. On a day like this, Cyrus McCormick and J.I. Case would be rolling over in their graves, not at all happy with the way their legacy is being run. Sorry for the rant here, I just thought some die-hard IHers would like to know.

Don't know where you are, but they are doing the same thing in southern Wisconsin/northern Illinois. They shut down AA Anderson totally and took away new sales from Triebolds. They are fricking morons. All so Johnson Tractor can service a larger area...seriously!?! That is why new tractors should be green...

Same thing happened here in eastern Oklahoma 10 years or so back. Still not a CaseIH dealer in the eastern half of Oklahoma. None of the larger CaseIH dealers in the surrounding area have jumped to expand into this area. This area was a major red tractor area. No more! They gave it away! CNH does have pretty good market share on the New Holland side here. Only a few of us diehards still bleeding red in this part of the state.

They are trying to catch up to John Deere. John was sending their small dealers a good deal??? Put in JD's computer system foe over 50,000 or shut the doors. Od course a small couldn'r afford that kind of price so they shut down. All the JD dealers here were bought by a local family owned dealer at the request of John Deere. The local dealer the offer was so good he couldn't turn it down. I think they own JD in eight differen t towns now. They are a good dealer too.

jeez, i get a lot of parts from dekane, i didnt know they were going to close. they are about 20 miles from here.

@sflem849 DeKane is in Northern IL. Johnson's in Rochelle is the next closest dealer. Maybe CNH thinks Big Rock is too close to civilization, but then again, Burr Ridge is even closer to the city.

@glennster NO, DEKANE IS NOT GOING TO CLOSE!!! Sorry for the all caps, but this is important to stress. They are going to continue to be a Kubota and Cub Cadet dealer, and other smaller lawn and garden lines. They are going to look into other lines as well to fill in on ag products.

F JOHNSON TRACTOR!!! Their Janesville people get annoyed when you ask for an M part. I am exclusively Triebold's for my parts (maybe Otter's in Burlington) Rumor has it they may get shut down as well. CNH is closing stores, but they are building a new factory store over by the plant. Morons...they are destined to fail...again...again...

I wonder if Triebold's in Whitewater, WI will ship them their CNH parts just like they do to AA Anderson. That is a frickin joke.

When CNH pulled Triebold's new tractors they can still sell parts. Some say indefinately some say for ten years...we'll see...

DeKane will sell Case IH parts at least throught the end of the year. After that, they have to apply for a "parts only" contract year to year. I can only assume that is the same with any other dealer in the same situation.

I don't blame you for not liking Johnson's. Our Case IH business will go to Leffelman's in Amboy before going to Rochelle. They are pretty good people there. Stoller's in Ottawa is closer than Amboy, but will probably still be choice #2.

if it makes you feel any better mother deere is leading the way with doing away with older succesful dealers. our deere dealer here in tiffin ohio got it's contract yanked just this last month. deere isn't too sentimentel either. creegers was their oldest dealer in the country. at least jd equipment didn't swallow them up. i thought after the deal with jd equipment stealing a successful family ran business in michigan got them sued for millions that this would stop, but it didn't.

they did the same thing to Baugher Implement in Greenview, IL about 5-6 years ago. they had to modernize, new computor system, tied to CNH, new, updated building, etc, or loose the CNH line, they said too old to go through all that stuff. They were the oldes IH dealer, with same family running it, that was still in business from what I was told. Don"t understand the greed of these big companies..

I do believe the failure of many companies is the failure to recognize their constituents as human. Bean counters fail to grasp the rationale for local service because they are so far removed from the earth that they only smell new paint. It is very disgusting. Jim

I agree with all the comments, here in northern Ill they closed a Case dealer in McHenry IL after 50 years of bus then A A Anderson in Harvard IL after a long time in bus I guess they were just to close too the farmers in our area, now word has it JD closed Maridian jd in Rockford IL, hopfully caseIH keeps Otter in Burinlington, WI going or farmersinmy area of Ringwood Ill will have to drive at least 40 miles one way for parts

Meridan was given a year by Deere to get big or get out. Supposedly Dekalb wanted to buy them, but couldn"t get together on price with them.

So....Meridan gets dumped. More business for Mid-State and Sloans now...

Dont these guys know that you cant sell tractors without dealers?I will not drive 50 miles to the nearest"correct"dealer,I will "jump ship"in aheartbeat to go to a closer competetor's store!

We have old dealer that specializes in parts for old tractors. He has one man shop and will not sell 1/2 dozen new tractors a year, will bet he will soon be history.
