Mystery hole

While adding fluid to the transmission of my Farmall 140, fluid began running out of a small opening that is underneith above the Trans. drain plug hole. It's at the bottum of the axle housing. Approx. 3/8in. oblong shaped. Is this hole supose to be open, and what is it's purpos?.

Sounds to me like you overfilled it and/or the axle shaft seal is ineffective letting oil get in the brake area.

Looked at mine saw no hole in the axle housing there.
Will take a closer look tomorrow when its not raining and get back with you.

There's not supposed to be any oil in that area and the hole lets any oil or water that gets in the brake area drain out.

You probably over filled and also the seal in the tranny is probably bad as oil is not supposed to come out there.

Thanks Bob. I appreciate the help.

i am told that u should drain a small amount before u add. the bottom portion will be water and sludge; so this gets rid of that
