F-12/14 homemade wide-front pictures

I've talked about this tractor a little lately and I hope to jump into a complete restoration on it soon. It's a 1937 F-12 with a complete F-14 conversion. Some of you guys wanted to see some more pictures of the wide front. If anyone has any guesses as to what this axle was off of I'd love to know. At first I was going to take it off and put the original NF back on, but after looking it over I think it's very unique and made very well so I'll leave it on.

My guess is you will find "Ford" stamped on that axle. However, the wheels look like some wheels my brother had on and old Pontiac.

I have a similar "Rube Goldberg" wide front-end. Is it they worth anything or should I leave it in the weeds?

We have a Ford model A, and that axle looks almost exactly like ours. It certainly was an ingenious idea that somebody had. The Ford motor company only made the model A through 1931, so your axle could be older than your tractor. I am almost positive that that is what that axle came off of. Very cool.

rim size may play in this model a used 21" and 19" tires latter models used 16" tires however i believe latter wheels would bolt on model a axle. just food for thought and no gaurantee on accuracy

Its priceless!very unique and one of a kind.Clean it up and proudly display it!Things like that are a tribute to the rescourcefulness of the American spirit

Seth, Thanks for the pictures of wide front and pully brake Great! Tell me again this was your grandfathers tractor who did all the modifactions work? They realy did some thinking and it is slick to see how they made it work. oldiron29

My grandfather was the second owner of this tractor. It was a neighbor who did all the modifications. My wife's grandfather who was born and raised in this same area worked for the gentleman when he was younger and remembers using it.

Actually Ford used that same axle(may have been slight variations as the years passed) all the way up into the 40's.

It's a very well-done swap though! I have an F-12 with what's apparantly an old Buick axle wide front conversion(one of the "Buick" hubcaps is still on it). It wasn't nearly as well done as this one- the axle had been cut apart and narrowed in the center, and instead of lug bolts, the wheels are just welded directly to the hubs, probably made tire changes a booger! One of these days I'll get pictures.

I find stuff like this just as interesting or even more so to look at than just another run of the mill restoration..

I don't generally like wide front axles on early Farmall tractors but I think those wire wheels look sharp. They look like they are either 17 or 18 inch Ford wheels.

Another example of innovation. I think when you restore the tractor you should gold plate or chrome the spokes on the front wheels. 8) Kidding. It looks nice and I would keep the WFE for this tractor!
