Farmall Cub won't start

Hi, guys. I just got my Cub back from the shop a few weeks ago. A coil and starter were replaced and the valves were adjusted. It ran great for a while. Then I parked it for a few days and now it will just turn over but won't start! Choking does no good, but spraying some starting fluid in the air intake will cause it to start for about 1 second then die. There is good fuel flow between the tank and the carburetor, and the idle adjusting screw is set at 1 turn above shut.
I appreciate any and all help, SF

You should have a drain plug in the bottom of the carb. Turn your gas off, pull that drain plug then catch the gas with a coffee can etc. You should get a good steady flow of gas there. If you do not then you have a sticking float and you might be able to free it up by tapping on the side of the carb with a screw driver handle etc. . If you have a good flow there but no start try holding your hand over the air intake area of the carb and hit the starter button and see if it starts. BE 100% sure it is out of gear and check that 3 time. You should feel a good suction there when you do that. If you don't then sounds like the shop did some thing wrong

Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor while a helper try's to start the engine to see if there's good suction. If there's low suction it's a sign of low intake manifold vacuum. I would recheck those valves to make sure they have enough clearance at .013" Cold.

On the side of the carb. (if IH carb.) there is a metering jet. It looks like a bolt, but is a hollow tube with a very small orifice on the end. This can get plugged and show the same symptoms. Same problem with my Cub recently. I dipped mine in NAPA carb. cleaner, but it didn't work until I cleaned out this tube with air.

Tap the carb with a heavy hammer, if the float is stuck that'll free it.

If that works go get a can of SeaFoam gas additive and put 2oz in the tank every time you put gas in.

If that doesn't help drain the tank and refill with fresh gas.

This afternoon I went out and took a look at the carb. I took it off and split it in half and drenched it in carb cleaner. I reassembled it and it didn't fix the problem. I will take a look at the small bolt on the side of the carb and clean it out after while. By the way, I checked the suction on the air intake, and it is pretty strong. Also, I am getting fuel out of the drain plug, but it is not as strong as what coming directly out of the line, but I think that is to be expected.
Larry, just to clarify, am I supposed to remove that bolt-like metering jet and blow it out with compressed air and use carb cleaner?
Thank you all for your help, SF

Okay, I have good news and bad news! I sprayed a pile of carb cleaner in the metering jet, reinstalled it, and the tractor cranks up great (special thanks to Larry)! Bad news is it wants to run with the choke half closed. When I close the choke all the way it misses, and when I open the choke like I am going to run the tractor it cuts off. I am pretty sure I warmed it up okay, because normally it rarely needs choke even to start. Thanks again to all of you, and please advise me on the choke problem if you can.

Try turning in the idle adjusting screw #22 clockwise until it stops. This is fully closed. Then turn counter clockwise 1 full turn. This should get the fuel set initially. Tune it later to get the best setting. If this doesn"t help and after adding new gas I would pull the carb. again and remove the idle screw, metering jet and any rubber washers and brass parts. Let it soak in carb. cleaner again. Something is stopping the proper mixture of air and fuel. Does it work better with the air cleaner hose off? If so look for an air restriction in the oil bath air cleaner.

Okay, guys, I think I have fixed the problem. After dismantling the carb 2 or 3 times, using plenty of carb cleaner, stripping the threads out where the gas line connects to the carburetor and fixing that, the cub seems to run fine! If I need more help I will start a new thread.
Thanks to all of you who took time to help me! SF
