Farmall 450 IPTO removal

On my SMTA I took it out as one unit. IIRC those four big bolts are all that hold it on.
You might need a pry bar to wiggle it out of there. It is pretty heavy so be prepared.

Hello,
Not sure if this is a silly question or not. I am needing to remove the entire PTO from my tractor, so I can get to the rear axles. The question I have is...
Do I have to take apart the entire PTO? My IT shop manual is assuming I want to do this. I really don't. I was hoping I could remove the entire unit pretty much in one shot, rather than taking each gear out at a time. The PTO looks to have a total of 6 bolts, 4 good size and 2 a bit smaller. I was hoping to just remove them, I think, and kinda wiggle the entier PTO out. I am asuming lots, like it would just shimmy right out...
I wasn't really wanting to take apart the PTO, but if that's the way it has to go, I will... Just didn't want to take apart something the wasn't broken and possibly cause leaks... I'm pretty lucky that way...

Thank You
Tony

(quoted from post at 08:10:47 03/30/11) Put an oil catch pan under the tractor BEFORE you pull the IPTO out!!
Don't ask how I know!!
Or park it with the nose downhill. I hear it doesn't take a huge hill, just a decent one.

the hill I use to take mine out has a 3ft rise in the length of the tractor and it's barely enough to keep that 15 gal. in there.
