the crankshaft cecks out ok to 20, but the nose is about 5000 worn. should i go with it, or a new one be ordered? thanks with alls help.....

The pulleys are very tight, fit the pulley and see if the measurement will make a difference. If it is loose, using brass shim stock, and a setscrew would work. Be sure it is all the way in to assure seating the crank gear. Jim

How did the pulley come off did you need a puller and did it have a set screw. It doesent matter what it mikes its how does the pulley fit. Those cranks dont all mike the same on the front thats why you need to use the pulley that came off if its a press fit. Was the crank stamped when it was ground there should be a place where its stamped.

there are rod and main bearings to .030 under for these engines, so condition will dictate whether to have it ground or just polished. As far as the front pulley, there were 2 styles. Press fit and one with a set screw. both need to be pressed off and on. I agree with previous posts, don't get too excited about the pulley. Those are available new (repros) and are a heck of alot cheaper than the cranks.

I have some cranks that have never been ground and are very usable for aa rebuild but i did not keep the front pulleys with them. Now i find some pulleys wont even start and others will slide on and not be tight wonder just what was going on. Also why do some cranks have a threaded hole. Why do some pulleys have a set screw dont seem to be any rhime or reason.Im not talking just a couple. Just how can you get the pulley to fit when it mikes a couple thous too small or too big.

it does have set screws. ggood. i thought i would have to get a new crank. but still dosnt make sence. thanks.

Take the crankshaft to your local auto machine shop. They can determine if it needs to be ground after they measure it. Buy your new bearings from them too. Hal
