1940 H Questions

1. Where is the hand crank stored on this tractor?

2. How is the rear light wire routed? Anyone have any pics? It has a section of metal armor on it.

3. What is the approximate weight of this tractor, 1 set of weights in the rears, none in the front, and no ballast in the tires? I"ve seen anything from 5500 pounds to 3875 pounds. 5500 seems a little high...

Thanks for any help!

I just hauled one about 3 weeks ago. Its a good 3500 but not much more unless you have loaded tires. There is no crank storage on this one either. I actually asked the same question a few weeks back.

About 4100-4300 lbs with one set of wheel weights. The wire should run under the left side of the platform. There used to be clips for the wire under it.

I second all that and would like to add that you can go to the CNH website and find wiring diagrams and parts breakdowns. You can see where the armored cable goes on one of them.

On our old '41 H we turned the left one of the drawbar anchoring rod clips on the front side of the axle housing upside down so the longer portion was above the level of the axle and put the crank in that square opening handle down....and let it rest against the fender. It ain't the best, but it works. I don't think the factory actually provided a retainer of any kind for the crank.

(quoted from post at 05:57:34 03/30/11) My H has a funny looking box on the seat post for the crank. I'm sure it is original.

It was actually a tool box, but it holds the crank very nicely.
