just got a 65 cub. would like to get a belly mower to mow my lawn. what would work best?

I wouldn't get anything bigger than a 48" mower.

My dad ran a custom mowing operation with a Cub as the primary unit...and we used just about every mover made for a Cub at one time or another.
The best all-around rotary mower, hands down, is the Woods 42. With its swinging blades, you can use it as a bush hog for stuff as high as the top of the hood...or, with sharp blades, it'll cut a lawn that looks good.
For 5-foot mowers, my favorite for LAWNS ONLY is the Mott Hammerknife flail mower. it does a really fine job...but they're not as common as the other belly mowers. I prefer the Woods 59 over the IH/Danco mower because it just seemed to me that, for some reason, the Danco pulled harder...sometimes half a gear harder.
Now, I'm not the expert that Pappy was in mowing with the Cub...but then, when mowing across a bank steep enough that you had to not only have the engine on the uphill side, but also had to hold the left brake in order to keep the tractor "pushing" itself up the hill...well, I usually threw in the towel on those. Never was daredevil enough to do it...but then, I never rolled the Cub, either [Pap did...twice].

Apples and oranges. Cub Cadets are rated bare engine horse power. Cubs are rated drawbar, belt pulley, and/or PTO.
